About the Program

Australian patients prescribed pegylated interferon alfa-2a can access their treatment through the dedicated Home Delivery Program, which has been running since 1 September 2024.

The program is delivered by Echo Therapeutics (the sponsor of pegylated interferon alfa-2a in Australia) through its EchoCare™ service, in partnership with JustMeds — a specialist medicines delivery provider.

Home delivery remains the patient supply pathway while manufacturing supply is constrained. Echo Therapeutics will review this arrangement once ongoing supply returns to pre-shortage volumes. Hospitals continue to order through Symbion, or through Queensland Health for Queensland public hospitals.

Current Supply Status

Last updated 31 July 2026, based on the latest advice from Echo Therapeutics.

135 mcg / 0.5 mL syringe
Australian supply resumed

The Australian-labelled 135 mcg pre-filled syringe has returned to supply. Availability is still constrained while global manufacturing catches up, so patient supply continues through home delivery rather than community pharmacy.

For a short period you may receive either the Irish-labelled or the newly available Australian-labelled product, until Irish-labelled stock is used up.

180 mcg / 0.5 mL syringe
Overseas-registered stock

The Australian-registered 180 mcg pre-filled syringe remains in shortage. Supply continues using the overseas-registered (Irish) pre-filled syringe, approved for supply in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration under Section 19A of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989.

The Irish and Australian products are identical in active ingredient, strength and formulation. Only the packaging and the leaflet inside differ.

If your pack is Irish-labelled

The medicine inside is the same. However, the leaflet packed with the Irish product is written for Ireland, so please disregard the leaflet inside the pack and use the Australian Consumer Medicines Information (CMI) instead. The Australian CMI is available from the Echo Therapeutics website, or from the TGA medicines database.

Keep injecting exactly as your doctor has prescribed. If anything about the pack looks unfamiliar or you're unsure before using it, call JustMeds and we'll talk it through with you.
